We heard an excellent program from Denise Munroe about the Summer Reading Program at the Massanutten Regional Library. It extends to all of their branches and impacts approximately 4,745 children who read over 47,000 hours during the summer.
Since its start, the Kiwanis Club of Harrisonburg has been a sponsor of the Summer Reading Program at Massanutten Regional Library. Today we presented our annual donation to Denise Munroe. Today, our club presented Lori Kizner, Executive Director of the Boys and Girls Club of Harrisonburg Rockingham with a donation check. Left to right are: Steven Alvis, Club President; Lori Kizner, BGCHR; and Dennis Baugh, Regional Trustee and club member. Because of the tremendous support the BGCHR gave to the Pancake Breakfast, the club was able to help of their organization better that expected.
The club heard a great presentation from Lori Kizner, Executive Director of the Boys and Girls Club of Harrisonburg Rockingham today. It enlightened the members on the contributions the BGCHR gives to the community and how it impacts our kids. We also had a visitor from the Shepherdstown, WV Kiwanis Club, Adele Knott.
Okay, so what goes on at an auction!!! Jack Bowman, owner of Bowman's Auction, enlightened the club on some of the things that have occurred over the years.

JMU Officer Named Lawperson Of The Year

HARRISONBURG — To his fellow offi cers, Sgt. Jamie Myers of the James Madison University Police Department is known as a man who will always get the job done.
For the last five years, he has led a team of five offi cers on joint patrols with the Harrisonburg Police Department in off-campus student-housing complexes.
“He does high-quality work,” said Maj. Kevin Lanoue, Myers’ supervisor. “He’s meticulous. ... He has high standards.”
For his efforts, Myers was named the area’s Lawperson of the Year, an annual award...
Marsha Garst, Commonwealth Attorney for Harrisonburg-Rockingham, gave a very moving and information presentation at the Law Person of the Year program.
The club heard an excellent presentation from JMU Baseball Coach, Merlin Ikenberry.
The Harrisonburg Kiwanis Club put together several teams to help suport the American Heart Association at the 2018 Heart Walk. Over $2,000 was raised.
It is always a pleasure to hear from George Hirschmann, City Council Member. He updated the club on current events in the city from his perscetive.
