With the Eater Season this week, Dr. Mark D. White, Pastor, Harrisonburg Baptist Church, brought the club the Easter Message.  Much inspiring.

How many of you read Snuffy Smith in the daily and/or Sunday papers?  Did you know that it is written by the one and only John Rose!  John is also the editorial cartoonist for the Harrisonburg Daily News Record.  During the meeting he showed us how he draws his cartoons.  He took over Snuffy Smith from the originator about 20 years ago.

Brittany Clem, Marketing and Special Projects Coordinator for Harrisonburg Parks and Rec, updated the club on what is going on in the city.  She invited the club to join a new program - adopt a park.  Many people do not know there is a Kiwanis Park operated by the city, but originally developed by the Kiwanis Club.  One program within the Parks and Rec is "50 + Wiser".  Lynn Hoy coordinates this program and informed the members on how to take advantage of this service.

Chaz Haywood, Clerk of the Circuit Court for Harrisonburg-Rockingham gave a presentation today and the inner works of this Department in County Government.

How many people are aware you have an organization in your community where you can establish a trust or foundation?  Well, Revlan Hill, Executive Director of The Community Foundation Harrisonburg-Rockingham, told us how.  She explained how The Community Foundation benefits the community and works as a source for non-profits and individuals.

The good part about having "older" members of the club is the stories they can tell!!  Bill Sanders, retired professor from JMU, gave an amazing talk on "Mules I Have Known"!  It was good to heard humorous news for a change.  Well done Bill!

Pastor Jason Wagner who serves the residents at the Rockingham County Jail, gave an overview on his job.  He is paid through a program of the Virginia Mennonite's and it is only part-time!  He conducts services, meets with residents individually and attempts to follow them when they are released.


Honored Teacher Essay Program - 02/13/2018

Several members of the Kiwanis Club, JMU-CKI and friends helped the Massanutten Regional Library by reading the essays submitted by students on the teacher that has impacted them the most.  Over 200 essays were received and winners were selected in three age groups.  An ultimate winner was then selected and presentations will be made later by the library.

Lisa Shull, Executive Director at the Explore More Discovery Museum, and a club member, gave an excellent talk on the services and programs available at the museum.  The number of visitors is staggering!  She emphasized and thanked the club for its continued support of the First Friday Free program.  This allows children of all ages to visit the library for no charge!.
