Lisa Shull, Executive Director at the Explore More Discovery Museum, and a club member, gave an excellent talk on the services and programs available at the museum.  The number of visitors is staggering!  She emphasized and thanked the club for its continued support of the First Friday Free program.  This allows children of all ages to visit the library for no charge!.

Each year, the Massanutten Regional Library sponsors the Robert B & Gladys Hopkins Strickler "Honored Teacher Essay Contest" for three categories:  K-2, 3-5, 6-8.  The club will be judging the entries on February 13.  Fun for all.

John Wampler, retired US Secret Service, gave an informative presentation on what it was like serving the country with the U. S. Secret Service.  After his retirement, he also worked with security at the Pentagon.


12-08-2017 Christmas Party - 12/11/2017

To get the members of the club into the holiday spirit even more, we held our annual Christmas Party at Sunnyside Retirement Community in Penn Laird.  The committee, headed by Glenn Weatherholtz, went all out with the food and entertainment.  A trio from Got Strings, LLC, provided a great selection of Christmas songs that inspired everyone in attendance.  The group was made up Breonna Proctor and Rebecca Walker on violins, and Andrew Schlagel on cello.  They are all Music Majors at JMU.

Each year we have a religious leader from the community come and give us a presentation of the Christmas spirit.  This year, Rev. Mary Elizabeth "Eli" Withers from Harrisonburg Baptist Church, educated us on the Advent Season.  It was very motivational and made us appreciate of what the holidays mean.

We were fortunate to have a returning speaker, Shanil Virani, Director of the John C. Welles JMU Planetarium, speak to us on Cassini and the sky phenomena!  The club appreciated the know Shanil brings and his talk was well received.
